Challenge, Engage, Learn: An Inquiry-based Approach to Flipped Learning

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This interactive workshop will share an approach to flipped learning that critically combines the more common interpretation with the thinking of leading educators including:
·      John Hattie: Visible Learning
·      Prof. Eric Mazur: Teaching through questioning
·     Alan November: Who owns the learning?
·      Ramsey Musallam: Teachers as creators of curiosity and Inquiry
Rather than flipping traditional instructional content, our approach focuses on the use of high quality provocations as lenses on learning, designed to challenge, initiate, inspire and motivate.Students come to lessons primed, curious and ready to learn, armed with questions to be answered and problems to be solved; having already considered, shared, revealed and discussed their understanding of key concepts in student-led learning communities. It seeks to change relationships between and amongst students and teachers. Ownership is shared and meaning is negotiated as learning opportunities are planned and personalized in direct response to feedback from student to teacher. The hands on element will use Verso to demonstrate how educators are engaging students in a process of productive discomfort in order to challenge their thinking, expose ideas and cultivate social capital with the intention of building learning power in their schools.
